Graduate Student Researcher – Technology and English Language Teaching

    • Under the direction of Dr. Mark Warschauer, conducted research on technology and English language instruction. Implemented, evaluated and coded online surveys, telephone interviews, and case study observation and interviews with English language teachers in 14 countries. Wrote and modified IRB protocols, organized weekly staff meetings and teleconference calls and managed a staff of four undergraduate transcribers. Wrote three reports for the study sponsor, Cambridge University Press (U.S. branch), and am currently writing further articles for publication.

Focus Group Interviewer – Pathway Project

    • Under the direction of Dr. Carol Booth Olson, Director of the University of California, Irvine Writing Project, conducted three rounds of 30-minute focus group interviews with Pathway Project participants and consultants (second-year participants). The Pathway Project is funded by the U.S. Department of Education’s Insitute of Education Sciences (IES) under the Teacher Quality Program.

    • Guest lectured one 1.5-hour class period of Education 134: Teaching English Internationally, taught by Dr. Mark Warschauer. The invited lecture focused on teaching EFL in East Asia, particularly South Korea, and on how to select EFL course materials.
    • Guest lectured in two sections of Dr. Rebecca Black‘s Education 334: Literacy and Technology in the Secondary Classroom. The lectures focused on the educational use of wikis.

Part-time English as a Second Language (ESL) Instructor

Writing Tutor and Mentor – Educational Opportunity Program (EOP)

    • Tutored low-income and educationally disadvantaged undergraduate Cal Poly Pomona students from intermediate- through advanced-level writing. In addition, mentored students in study skills. Participated in biweekly training sessions with other tutors, and received a College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) Level 1 Tutor Certificate in May 2007.

    • Volunteered as a mentor and English tutor for juvenile girls in State residential care. Participated in weekly meetings with the girls, mentoring them in study skills and life issues.
